Sea Kayaking and White Water Safety Equipment
Towlines are generally used to tow another kayak, either during a rescue situation when a paddler has entered the water and the kayak needs to be moved out of the way, or to tow a weak or injured paddler back to shore. Towlines are usually mounted on a quick release belt so that the person under tow can quickly be released if the person performing the tow gets into difficulty.
Towlines for river and general purpose use tend to be in the 3-5m range and are designed for use with Whitewater and general purpose kayaks. Sea Kayaking towlines are normally longer, between 10 and 20 metres to accomodate the length of a sea kayak and provide the option of having more distance between the two kayaks when under tow. These are considered an essential piece of kit for sea kayaking safety.
Rescue Ultility Belts allow you to custom pick the equipment you carry on your waist belt and can be used to hold throwlines and leashes.
