Composite Sea Kayak for Weekend Expeditions & Coastal Play
Offering maximum performance from a 16ft hull, the Volan sets the standard for a high performance versatile sea kayak for day trips, weekend expeditions and general coastal play. With a sweet combination of stability and tracking, thanks to a relatively flatter section beneath the cockpit with a shallow-V profile, yet with the ability to put it on edge and carve into a wave, the Volan turns into a very capable sea kayak for use in a range of conditions. The hull has moderate rocker with a good amount of volume in the bow with wave deflectors built into the sidewalls to provide extra lift in choppy seas, for an overall drier ride and enhanced performance. The hull provides plenty of waterline length that engages early on flat seas for increased hull speed. Fast on flat seas, efficient in choppy waters and agile on a standing wave. The Volan can do it all, from your gentle amble along the coast, to weeklong expeditions in dynamic conditions, to surf and wave play in tidal races to the more technical handling needed to navigate the crooks and crannies along the coast.
4 hatches offers more than enough storage for your weekend camping expedition, or a lightweight week-long set up. The hatches feature durable rubber KajakSport hatch covers to keep your gear dry. The bow, stern and day hatches features foam bulkheads for sealed storage areas and inherent buoyancy within the hull. The deck-pod hatch in front of the cockpit is very handy for keeping small essentials such as a camera or snacks close-by for quick access. The Volan is equipped with full deck lines and bungees allowing you to stow map cases, bilge pumps and more on the deck right where you need them.
Outfitted with all the features you can expect from a top-spec modern sea kayak. Featuring a classic drop-down skeg for fine tracking control with the slider control up on the foredeck out of the way of your paddle stroke, so no more catching your knuckles as you paddle! The bow deck features secure storage for a spare split paddle up on the bow, with a recess to accomodate a Silva 70p compass. The bow is shaped in such as way to provide stiffness and strength for deep water rescues, and the lower profiled stern offers easier rolling and stern re-entries. A paddle shaft recess is included for bracing during entry.
The Volan is available in 4 sizes to suit a wide range of paddler sizes. Choose from several advanced composite constructions including Performance Kevlar/Diolen to Expedition Carbon/Kevlar with full customisation options.
