British Canoeing

The Governing Body for Paddlesport in the UK

The British Canoe Union was first formed in 1936. Then in 2000 they federalised to become the overarching organisation covering the home nation associations in Wales (Canoe Wales), Scotland (Scottish Canoe Association), and Northern Ireland (Canoe Association Northern Ireland). With British Canoeing still being the membership body for England.


Joining British Canoeing gives lots of membership benefits, including:

  • Combined Liability Insurance providing for legal liability cover following negligence, nuisance or trespass. Also designed to support Coaches deliver guidance and advice.

  • Access to very good savings on individual or multi craft boat insurance. Covers canoes, kayaks and paddle boards.
  • Supporting British Canoeings Access and Environment Charter - Clear Access, Clear Waters - a campaign which sets out a vision to confirm access to the rivers and inland waters of England whilst protecting the environment.
